ALUMNI JOURNAL-- WHAT IS IT?
Welcome to Alumni Journal! This is the first of a bi-annual newsletter through which we hope to communicate with speedskating alumni and share articles of interest, news, upcoming events, and much much more! If you want to continue receiving this email, click here to subscribe >>
BUT...we need your help! We have such an incredible group of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, friends and family in our skating community that have helped the sport over many years to where it is today. We want to find them wherever they may be and this is where we need you!
Please consider sharing Alumni Journal with those skating friends and colleagues you know have been out of touch with the sport and help us realize our goal of reconnecting with them. We also want your suggestions and contributions as to what type of content you would like to see in future issues, and what milestones, experiences, photos and memorabilia you wish to share.

A burning desire to eat anything BUT Kraft Dinner and day-old ramen noodles, too many hours watching the Food Network between workouts and a friendship with Calgary Chef/Ice Tech Shawn Bower started him on a culinary adventure that would lead to a successful career in one of America’s most competitive industries.
After ending a long and short track speed skating career that featured two National Championships, two appearances at the US Olympic Festival and time on the Junior National Team, Needham attended one of America’s most prestigious culinary schools; The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, New York.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: DAVE SILK
Dr. Dave Silk is historically one of America’s best distance skaters ever. Dave is one of only two American men to ever win the overall World Cup in the 5km event. He is an Olympian and World Championship medalist, and was recently inducted into the US Speedskating Hall of Fame. Hailing from a small town in western Montana, as a person he is about as grounded as they come. We caught up with Dave recently for a few laps…
