This month: new catfish festival in North Little Rock

North Little Rock Parks & Recreation is bringing you a new event for the whole family, featuring a good ol' Southern favorite: catfish! Sunday, October 29, come out to the Burns Park Soccer Complex and, for only $1 per adult and no admission fee for ages 12 and under, enjoy:

  • Live music by Runaway Planet and Joseph Darr
  • Bounce houses
  • Face painting
  • North Little Rock Fire Department truck
  • Baggo boards
  • Food trucks

All funds raised from the Catfish Road Festival will go toward the expansion of the One Heart Playground, built for children of all abilities in Burns Park.

This month: Relive the golden age of early aviation

A 1929 Ford Trimotor Airliner, one of only 199 made by the Ford Motor Company, will be on display for free and giving rides for a fee from October 12 through October 15 at the North Little Rock Municipal Airport as part of an annual tour around the country. Rides can be booked online or by calling 1(877)952-5395. The plane will fly low and slow around Central Arkansas, along the Arkansas River and looping through Conway. For the film buffs: the plane visiting North Little Rock is the very plane seen in Public Enemy with Johnny Depp and The Family Jewels with Jerry Lewis.

Restaurant Spotlight: Kamikaito by Kiyen's

The much-anticipated opening of the Argenta Arts District's Kamikaito was worth the wait! We stopped by for lunch this week and enjoyed generous portions of the chicken and shrimp hibachi. The newly decorated interior makes the large space more intimate with dividers, rustic chic tables and self-playing piano in the corner for a little extra ambience. The large front windows are blocked by an area that will soon be serving ice cream and to-go meals. The menu includes an extensive sushi list, hibachi, soups and noodles.

Last week, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that the restaurant is open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The phone number is (501)891-6172.
