Building the Foundation for Today and Tomorrow

As the fundraising arm of Center for Hospice Care (CHC), the Hospice Foundation (HF) recognizes the importance of maintaining close relationships with those who make our work possible –- our donors.
We appreciate these relationships and do our best to nurture them in many ways, including this newsletter and the various printed materials we mail to our supporters throughout the year. One special way we like to show appreciation to the members of our Circle of Caring is by hosting our annual Circle of Caring Luncheon. It is an opportunity for us to thank our donors in person and make sure they are aware of what is happening with both our organizations. More details about this event are included in this issue.

Another fundamental set of relationships we strive to build are with those who help to strengthen our communities. By growing these foundations, we foster an already-strong dedication to the charitable organizations in the area. We are excited to be part of the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County's inaugural Give Local St. Joseph County event along with many other organizations. This event is a great opportunity for people to give to their community in a way that will make not only an immediate impact, but a lasting impact as well. Mark your calendar for May 5th!

And finally, with an eye toward building a strong foundation for tomorrow, CHC is proud to host the 22nd Annual Camp Evergreen during the first weekend in June 2015. A camp for youth and teens who have suffered the loss of someone significant in their lives, Camp Evergreen is one of the many services offered free of charge to our community through our Life Transition Center.  A previous relationship with CHC is not required. Learn more about how Camp Evergreen makes a difference in the lives of children throughout our community in this issue.

Our reputation as a valuable member of our community is just as important to us in 2015 as it was when Center for Hospice Care was founded in 1978. We thank those who give of their time, their treasure and their talent in helping make this possible. And with spring coming in just a few weeks, we look forward to you all at an upcoming event!

Circle of Caring Luncheon

As a way of showing our appreciation for our Circle of Caring members, Center for Hospice Care (CHC) and the Hospice Foundation (HF) will host the annual Circle of Caring Luncheon on Thursday March 19. The event will take place at the CHC Mishawaka Campus Conference Center beginning at 11:30 am.

Without our generous donors, we would not be able to keep our promise that no one eligible for hospice care will ever be turned away, regardless of their ability to pay. The luncheon is a chance for our supporters to receive an update about how their generous contributions are being used to improve the quality of living throughout the communities we serve. For more information about the event, contact Cyndy Searfoss at SearfossC@centerforhospice.org or 574.277.4203. Please RSVP for the lunch by Friday, March 13.

Give Local St. Joseph County

Center for Hospice Care (CHC) and the Hospice Foundation (HF) will be taking part in the first-ever "Give Local St. Joseph County," a one-day giving event that will benefit various charities throughout our community. The event has been organized by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County and will take place on May 5, 2015. It's an opportunity for donors to make both an immediate and a lasting impact.

Here's how it works:  On May 5, visit Center for Hospice Care's donation page and make a donation of $25 or more. Seventy-five percent of all donations will be routed directly to CHC, while the other 25% will be routed to CHC's fund with the Community Foundation. Thanks to the generous sponsors of this event, there will also be $3 million of matching funds. Once all donations are received at the end of the day, the matching funds will be divided among all of the charities taking part in the event and placed into their Community Foundation funds. By splitting the donations and matching funds between the organization and the fund, donors are able to make both an immediate and long term contribution to CHC.

Camp Evergreen 2015

The 22nd Annual Camp Evergreen is scheduled for the weekend of June 5-7. Camp Evergreen is a grief camp for youth and teens who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life. As is the case with all of Center for Hospice Care's bereavement services, Camp Evergreen is available at no cost to the campers' families.

Each year, Camp Evergreen assists campers in realizing that many other youth and teens have experienced death. It also educates them on the grief process and positive ways to cope with their loss. Along with opportunities for healing and for sharing about their significant person, the teens and youth have a fun-filled experience.

The Youth Camp for children ages 6-12 will be held on Saturday, June 6. The Teen Camp, for 12-17 year olds will run from June 5-7. Camp Evergreen is held at Bair Lake Bible Camp in Jones, Michigan. Free transportation to and from camp is provided for both weekend and day campers from local, designated pickup sites. The teens and volunteers stay overnight in a secure and comfortable lodge.

The camp is run by Center for Hospice Care bereavement counselors and trained adult volunteers, some who serve as buddies. Each youth camper has an adult buddy who is paired with them for the day. A small group of teens share an adult buddy. Activity volunteers are also trained and they support the camp activities as needed. We are always in need of additional quality volunteers. For information on registering a camper or becoming a volunteer, contact the Life Transition Center at 574.255.1064 or email evergreen@cfhcare.org and indicate you would like information on Camp Evergreen.

You are receiving this email as a supporter of Hospice Foundation/Center for Hospice Care's mission and/or events. Because of your support we are able to continue to keep our promise that nobody eligible for hospice care will be turned away, regardless of their ability to pay.
